About the film
Yegor Prokudin walks out of prison having promised himself he will never go back. He has been writing to Lyuba, a kind village woman he has never met, and decides to go to her instead of returning to his old gang.
Village life is slow and strange to him, and his past is not ready to let him go. Shukshin, who wrote, directed and starred, makes a film that is funny, tender and finally devastating.
