About the film
Liberation is one of the largest war films ever made. Over five feature-length films it follows the Red Army from the tank battle at Kursk through Ukraine, Belarus and Poland to the storming of the Reichstag.
Yuri Ozerov mixes huge reconstructed battles with scenes in headquarters, from Stalin's Kremlin to Hitler's bunker, and with the story of a few soldiers who live, fight and die along the way.
Made with Poland, East Germany, Italy and Yugoslavia, it shows the official Soviet view of the war, and it is still spectacular to watch in Mosfilm's 4K restoration.
